Doonya Shop and Home for Homeless

Jackie Lai

Social Design Doonya Shop and Home for Homeless by Jackie Lai Doonya is a modular shelter unit that combines a home and a small shop for people without housing. Each unit measures 6 metres by 3 metres, giving 18 square metres, and can be extended up to 40 square metres as a family grows. Built with tubular infrastructure technology, one unit can be assembled by four people in four hours using a single allen key. Each unit carries a unique GPS number, which provides an address and an identity. Further features include an alarm, a terrace, a roof garden, a solar panel and rainwater harvesting.
