The Big Roof Fire Station

Chuan-Chih Chang

Architecture, Building and Structure Design The Big Roof Fire Station by Chuan-Chih Chang The Big Roof is a fire station in Keelung, Taiwan, a mountainous and rainy city. The design adapts the local mountain house style, so the building reads as a landmark and still blends into the terrain. A large sloping roof forms a new layer over the mountain surface. Balconies and openings create sheltered spaces between the landscape and the building. These spaces add depth, reduce direct sunlight in summer and allow natural ventilation. A scenic path beside the fire station leads to the park and the surrounding landscape.
