House for Parents Residence

Masakatsu Matsuyama

Architecture, Building and Structure Design House for Parents Residence by Masakatsu Matsuyama House for Parents is a residence on Amami-Oshima Island, an area with a severe subtropical climate and frequent typhoons. A large rectangular roof is supported by a steel framework structure with a four meter span. The roof creates a cool and shaded interior, similar to the space under large trees. The concrete walls stand independently from the roof structure, so the floor plan is free from restrictions caused by columns. Projecting concrete walls extend the common areas outward toward the surrounding island landscape.
